I asked a friend to write me a bit of a game story prompt and then tasked myself with writing four tracks within the hardware limitations of the NES that would go with it.
Although this is meant as background music to the Citadel of the Autarchessa (the queen/empress of this civilization, from what I gather from the prompt) and is therefore a "dungeon" theme, I wanted to go for some genre dissonance here. I wanted to the music to be bittersweet, sad, and almost lullaby-esque to emphasize how much the "antagonist" of the game (The Autarchessa) means to the people of this city and drive home the moral ambiguity of the situation.
